SASSI as a guide to referral
As well as serving as a guide to identifying an appropriate goal for the intervention, the SASSI can give an indication of which clients are likely to need their self-esteem and feelings of self-efficacy raising, which clients are likely to benefit from groupwork, which clients are likely to do well merely with advice and education, and which clients are likely to need more protracted psychotherapeutic interventions. It also flags up risk of suicide or of absconding from treatment, and the need to address issues of social skills and re-integration.
